Create a shared Shutterous album for Thanksgiving snaps

You know how it goes during the holidays: your mom wants pictures of the kids, but the best ones are on your husband’s phone. Your aunt wants pictures of you, and those are only on your phone. Your brother, who can’t make it up from Duluth this year, wants a play-by-play of the festivities, and you have no idea how many phones, Canons, and futuristic devices those will end up on! And you definitely don’t want your Facebook profile plastered with a bunch of random snaps (some less savory than others, no doubt). Shutterous to the rescue.

Give yourself one more reason to be thankful tomorrow: create a shared Shutterous album with everyone who wants new snaps or will be documenting the Thanksgiving festivities. Then your mom, aunt, brother, and anyone else who gives a turkey leg can view all your recent faves and the new Thanksgiving snaps in one place. It’s more private than Facebook, and it’s easier to pull off than you might think. If you need a refresher on the how-to’s of creating a Shutterous album, or don’t want to explain the same steps to everyone a million times over, just go here.

Now everyone can get snap happy, and sanely, this Thanksgiving.

Shutterous Caption This

<Your caption here>

Here’s another of our favorite Shutterous shots snapped by wedding guests at Mike and Amy’s wedding. We’re not really sure what’s going on in this snap, though – the caption possibilities are endless. So give it  shot: how would YOU caption this shot?

We do feel a bit sorry for grooms on the wedding day. After all, no one stands up when they make their entrance, and no one’s really looking at their attire, makeup, or hair, save to make sure that they didn’t put the jacket on inside-out.

But, really, when brides look like this (from Mike and Amy’s Shutterous wedding album), can you blame most people for overlooking the groom? Pretty good shot captured by a non-professional photographer, eh?

Do you have a recent wedding snap, captured in a Shutterous album, of a stunning bride (yes, women: photos of you at your wedding are acceptable – send ‘em in!).

Each Wednesday, we’ll feature a Shutterous wedding album or a great wedding photo captured and created by all the guest at a recent (or especially cool) wedding.
This week, it’s Mike and Amy’s Shutterous wedding album.

Mike and Amy's Shutterous Wedding Album

What we love about their album:
It captures not only the wedding, but the engagement and all the wedding planning, too. It’s a truly candid album of all the great moments that no professional photographer could possibly capture.
Favorite snap: The 30-Second Kiss
(Mike and Amy raised money for their favorite charity by agreeing to kiss for 30 seconds in exchange for some serious cash donated by their guests – guests who found it highly amusing. When was the last time you saw something like this at a wedding?)
Check out the rest of Mike and Amy’s Shutterous album: which photo is your favorite?

Fromage!

If I can post this, you can too!

Hey friends,

Thanks for clicking the link. You’ve made it this far, and I have only one more thing to ask of you, I hope it is easy and as fun for you as I expect it to be for me.

I’ve been helping out a bit with this thing called Shutterous. The main idea behind Shutterous is creating a place where groups can form for a brief period of time and share pictures that matter to everyone in that group in real-time. I watched this concept in action at Mike’s wedding last spring, and it is pretty exciting.

Here’s what I’d like to ask of you. I’ve created a group called Matt’s Friends on Shutterous. If you would be so kind as to indulge me, I’d like you to sign up, and download the Shutterous app from iTunes if you have an iPhone or iPod touch (iOS 4.3 and later). Then post a picture of yourself in Matt’s Friends. You can take a new picture, or post an old one from the app. Alternatively, you can post one from your computer on Shutterous.com.

Since I know some of you more than others, it will be really fun to see the pictures you post. Post a picture of your family, if you’d like, too. Even if you’re not my friend, post away. It can never hurt to have too many friends.

If you have any troubles, or feedback on what we’re doing, we’d love to hear it. If you’d like to use Shutterous at an event, maybe a wedding, social event or some other thing, let me know as well. We would like to figure out how to make this as easy for you and your guests to use as possible. And, of course, we’ll help a set of full resolution, non-watermarked images from your event find their way back into your hands afterwards.

Thanks for your time, and thanks in advance for your photos,

Matt

Now that Shutterous has made it easy to capture and share photos at an event, we’ve been thinking about how to make our photo albums even better.  Even we’ll admit that sometimes static photo albums just don’t cut it. (Like that time you went to Hawaii with friends and the Photoshop geek of the group posted a slick YouTube slideshow on Facebook 2 hours after you got back. How do you top that?). So we teamed up with the good people of Animoto to help you put your photo memories into motion.

With one click, you can start turning your fav Shutterous photo album into something a bit like a music video or a movie trailer.  Give it a whirl – it’s free and easy.  (Yes, really. Super easy: when we did a trial run, it took about 5 minutes.)

Here’s how:
1. Log into your Shutterous account
2. Pick  your favorite photo album
3. Click the Animoto icon (beneath Share – see below)
4. You’ll be taken to Animoto, where you’ll walk through 3 easy steps to creating your video:

a. Choose a video style (30-second clips are free; longer videos are $5)
b. Upload your Shutterous album
c. Add some music (you can choose your own, or pick something from Animoto’s library)

5. Voila! You’ll get an email from Animoto when your video’s ready – it only takes a few minutes.
6. Brag a bit – share your video on Facebook (take that, YouTube geek).
7. So, was it as easy as we claimed it would be? Post your masterpiece to our  Shutterous Facebook Page or Shutterous Twitter account, too, and tell us what you thought

First, click the Animoto button on your Shutterous album:

Animoto button is located in the Share menu

Share menu is located on the right

Next, walk through Animoto’s 3-step process:

It’s only appropriate that we have a first post for our blog, that isn’t the default Hello world! from WordPress.  So here it is, the very thing that inspired us behind the company name:
